The Senior Healthcare Contracts Negotiator for Managed Care Contracts (Managed Care Specialist 4) works independently and proactively with decision-making responsibility under the general consultative direction of the UC Davis Health Managed Care Contracts and Payor/Provider Relations Manager. The position assists the department in writing, negotiating, overseeing and processing of Managed Care Contracts payor and provider contracts with health plans, managed care plans, insurance companies, and external providers. Drafts original and/or edits proposed documents. Negotiates and drafts the documents, and administers the contract during its life. Serves as a resource for UCDHS staff and others to provide information and advice on the terms of the contracted agreements. Evaluates and implements changes in federal and state law and University policy related to health care contracting, and provides information and training to UCDHS staff in the preparation, negotiation and administration of managed care contracts.REQUIRED --Demonstrated experience and knowledge pertaining to managed health care programs, products, operations and policies --Demonstrated experience preparing and negotiating complex managed care payor and provider contracts with documented experience negotiating hospital, medical group, ancillary, pharmacy and downstream agreements in a health care setting --Demonstrated ability to exercise personal initiative and direction, to maintain a sense of self-confidence sufficient to accept responsibility for own decisions, attempt difficult or unfamiliar tasks, develop new sources of information, present recommendations persuasively, and to both provide and receive advice effectively --Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of people in the private sector, public sector, government, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions, as well as with internal faculty and staff at UC Davis and UCDHS --Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and recommend appropriate strategy to health system leadership based upon knowledge and data --Bachelor's Degree in business or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience --Operating knowledge and skills of necessary to utilize business applications such as MS Word, Excel, Acrobat, and the Internet PREFERRED: --Financial modeling skills with expertise in medical data, spreadsheets and database applications --Prior work experience in an academic health care system and knowledge of academic policies, procedures and issues --Advanced business or related degree, or, degree in Law --Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent university policies and procedures falling within the scope of the position SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT ![]()
