Pharmacy Support Services System Director

Position Purpose The Pharmacy ICCE System Support Services Director directly reports to the Pharmacy ICCE System Administrative Officer. Under limited supervision, the director provides safe and efficient pharmaceutical care resulting in positive patient outcomes to the pharmacy division of MUSC Health. This position is an integral operational partner and collaborates with the administrator in the implementation of various enterprise initiatives. S/he assists in the oversight and integration of medication safety initiatives across the Pharmacy ICCE system, supports the system formulary process, oversees the compounding center and provides leadership to the Pharmacy Residency Program. S/he guides and reports out on a balanced scorecard for each area of oversight across the system and manages special projects as assigned by the ICCE leadership. Job Responsibilities 1: Communicates and collaborates across disciplines and work areas • Projects a customer service attitude by being attentive, responsive, courteous and compassionate to customers (e.g., patients, physicians, nurses, and students). • Facilitate solutions for the department and communicates key messages to area staff. • Actively participates in departmental and medical center committees, organizations, and task forces representing the entire pharmacy ICCE. • Liaison for practice sites across the system regarding medication use, safety, and education. 2: Leads and participates in growth and strategy planning • Works with others to develop short term and long-term goals for growth related to Pharmacy Services. • Develops strategic initiatives and implementation plans that align with health system goals. • Works with the Office of Strategy and Development and Affiliations to expand pharmacy services as part of the larger Health system plan. • Works with the Pharmacy Business Director to create business plans, pro formas and presentations for growth related to services, space and people. • Finds innovated ways to improve efficiency and expand services with the latest technology. 3: Monitors and develops continuous improvement in management, inventory control, utilization management, and staffing efficiency while achieving quality outcomes. • Reviews patient safety concerns and works with other healthcare leaders and staff to improve care across the pharmacy system ICCE. • Ensure pharmacy areas adhere to relevant safety, regulatory, and certification standards. • Develops, evaluates, revises, implements, and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. • Complies and monitors local pharmacy quality performance metrics and reports those up through system ICCE leadership as required. 4: Oversees the Pharmacy Residency Program and teaches and educates • Oversees the residency program by aligning policies and working with the residency program directors • Precepts pharmacy students and residents on rotations • Develops and promotes career development for pharmacy staff 5: Responsible for contributing to the financial performance of pharmacy services across the system • Works with the pharmacy executive team to develop annual operating and capital budget. • Reviews financial statements and reports timely and makes operating adjustments to meet goals. • Meets with others within the Pharmacy ICCE or the health system to develop systems and protocols to minimize cost and increase revenue. • Recommends cost containment programs, policies, and or procedures to ensure efficiency, economy, and effectiveness 6: Supports human capital • Recruits, hires, evaluates, promotes development and disciplines staff. • Makes effective recommendation for promotion, demotion, and termination. • Responds to employee grievances according to established grievance procedures. • Performs midpoint and annual performance evaluations for the staff directly reporting to him/her

Requirements (Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Registry &/or Certifications) The position of Director, requires a Doctor of Pharmacy or bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and completion of a management pharmacy residency program; or completion of non-management pharmacy residency program and five years supervisory experience; or equivalent management experience is required. Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Must maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Must be BLS certified at date of hire.
