Position Summary
The Vaccine Clinic Lead Pharmacist is responsible for performing various clinical duties related to oversight, preparation and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes, but is not limited to, understanding the quality control requirements of all available COVID-19 vaccines, ensuring minimal to no wastage in the preparation and distribution of these vaccines within the clinic setting, and providing professional assistance in adverse effect scenarios. The Lead Pharmacist must have the demonstrated ability to lead processes independently.
This position is a 6-month temporary assignment with possible extensions.
Scheduling involves weekends with occasional weekdays.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Oversee daily COVID clinic vaccine availability, flow and preparation.
Perform vaccine preparation and storage quality control checks and maintain documentation of all vaccine storage, handling and usage processes and workflows
Provide training to medication preparation clinical staff and volunteers
Possess a deep knowledge of COVID vaccine storage and handling requirements for all available COVID vaccine manufacturing brands
Determine necessary vaccine qualities needed for each clinic day and keep consistent track of any extra doses to be administered at the end of day. Work closely with clinic operational leads to ensure any extra doses are utilized by close of clinic
Interact and work closely with hospital pharmacists for coordination of vaccine vials and supplies
Document instances of vaccine variance, wastage and shortage and report to Pharmacy Director
Identify areas of efficiency opportunities and work with operations and pharmacy staff to improve processes
Possess the knowledge and skillset to assist in cases of vaccine adverse reactions
Answer COVID vaccine related questions for clinic staff and patients
Ability to be at work and be on time
Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives
Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner
Ability to prioritize and multitask
Track and maintain vaccine documentation requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, temperature logs, usage accountability sheets, training attestations and used vials.
Ensure adequate supply of materials needed for vaccine preparation and administration for each clinic. Work closely with inpatient pharmacy and procurement teams to ensure supply.
Plan and oversee just in time vaccine usage and preparation for each clinic the lead oversees.
Train clinical staff and volunteers on medication preparation workflow and duties.
Maintain a deep knowledge base on storage, handling and administration requirements of all available COVID vaccines. Keep up to date with any changes to existing regulations or guidelines.
Provide drug information services around vaccine administration, storage and side effects to clinic staff and patients.
Assist in adverse events related to COVID vaccine clinics.
Identify and recommend improved service efficiency and flow opportunities.
