Academic Detailing clinical pharmacy specialist (CPS) functions with a scope of practice for comprehensive medication management. This includes evaluation of patients, initiating and adjusting medications, and conducting follow up for patient assessment of response and potential adverse effects. Develop and implement targeted programs to achieve performance measures and contract goals in a global and time-efficient manner. Have knowledge of and apply marketing techniques in promotion of practice guidelines and other evidence-based prescribing initiatives. Retrieve best practice information from model sites and implement efforts for quality management. Coordinate targeted physician and pharmacist task forces to address performance measures and optimize cost-effective use of medications and respective concerns. Generates reports, searches, and lists for as appropriate for research and program purposes. Use multiple computer software programs for management and analysis of data. Plays critical role in formulary management at the facility and focuses on initiatives to improve overall drug cost Functions with a scope of practice for comprehensive medication management. This includes evaluation of patients, initiating and adjusting medications, and conducting follow up for patient assessment of response and potential adverse effects. Participates in precepting pharmacy residents and students as part of duty responsibilities to increase awareness and understanding of clinical pharmacy practice, pharmacoeconomic and managed care issues. Accountable to the Chief, Pharmacy Service, or their designee, for professional licensure, competency and continuing education. Provides education based on targeted performance areas and data to targeted providers, pharmacists and clinical teams. Be available to give lectures or smaller in-service presentations related to CPG as requested by various health teams. In addition, CPS for Academic Detailing may develop promotional concepts and may launch a promotion as time-limited intensive campaign with assistance of other medical, nursing or pharmacy personnel.
