The Procurement Pharmacy Technician is a highly specialized technician who, under the authority of the Chief, Pharmacy Service and Associate Chief of Pharmacy Operations, is responsible for the first line procurement, inventory management and storage of all drug products and pharmaceutical supplies for the Pharmacy Service. The incumbent serves as the procurement, fund control, and inventory management specialist for the Pharmacy team. He/she projects, coordinates, and assures accuracy of the annual budget. He/she has knowledge of commercial supply sources and common business practices, and utilizes those factors relating to discounting, units of measurement, deliveries, stocks, and shipments. This position is largely buying and/or arranging to buy pharmaceutical products. He/she must monitor cash flow and make appropriate adjustments in inventory levels as well as maintain medication inventories sufficient to sustain all areas of patient care. Independently provides information to the pharmacy management team on matters requiring supplemental funding with detailed supporting documentation, with cost analysis provided for significant changes in usage trends, and provides expertise in annual budgeting projections for the pharmacy. Independently resolves budgetary discrepancies that arise due to changes that occur during the procurement, obligation, and delivery process. Closes out the control point without deficit spending and coordinates/obligates funds allocated for non-controlled items. Compiles and analyzes data from a variety of sources, inventories, procurement records, financial expenditure information, professional medical and pharmacy personnel, to assess and project the importance and impact of changing trends of drug utilization on drug inventory control and budget utilization, and communicates this information, along with relevant control recommendations and action to the pharmacy management team. Monitors utilization rates for all drugs, supplies, and pharmacy items in pharmacy, including a wide variety of ostomy products and supplies, catheters and other specialized medical devices. Acts as procurement expert and consultant to pharmacy management on all matters, laws, regulations, and requirements associated with drug purchasing/procurement and inventory control. The incumbent plans and carries out the successive steps in the work assignment independently and applies knowledge of inventory management, procurement, fund control, and pharmacy practice procedures and techniques to resolve problems that occur in handling daily work assignments. The results of the work are reviewed for appropriateness and adherence to policy and requirements. Subject to such controls, day-to-day functions and work assignments are performed with considerable independence. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday to Sunday: variable 8 hours tour of duty between 6:00am to 7:00pm including holiday and weekend shifts to meet the needs of the service.
