Provide functional leadership and support for the pharmacy, under the direction of a pharmacist, in the central pharmacy and decentralized areas while assisting the pharmacist with compounding and dispensing of pharmaceuticals, IV solutions and gathering and documenting information. Provide assistance in the narcotic control area as directed. Assist with meeting the needs of the pharmacy customer base by demonstrating advanced knowledge in a variety of areas.

This position is approved for 80 hours every two weeks and is benefit eligible position. This position qualifies for a $5000 sign on bonus.

Prepare, label and deliver medications and supplies accurately and safely, as assigned and in accordance with all legal requirements and policies under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

• Calculate and measure correct dose, select correct drug and diluents, compound and label products accurately and safely.
• Admixtures include Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Immunoglobulin mixtures (IGG, ATG), irrigations, infusions, antibiotic piggybacks and syringes, chemotherapy and other sterile products.
• Demonstrate knowledge of calibrating TPN compounding pump, packaging machines and other technology
• Demonstrated expertise in Automated Dispensing Cabinet system including refilling, inventory management, managing discrepancies, troubleshooting, basic reports and maintenance.
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.

Check medications in accordance with the Tech-Check-Tech protocol as assigned. Maintain Tech-Check-Tech certification if necessary.

Adhere to USP 797 and other regulations governing all sterile compounding processes (e.g. sterile technique, garbing, cleaning and documentation). Mix and label IV admixtures accurately and safely including:

• IV solutions, infusions, Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) etc.
• Biologicals including immunoglobulin mixtures (IGG, ATG)
• Piggybacks and syringes and other sterile products
• Chemotherapy and other hazardous agents
• Demonstrate knowledge of calibrating TPN compounding pump.

Process medication orders or prescriptions and maintain patient profiles accurately in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy information systems.

• Enter patient medication orders into the EHR (electronic health record) and/or pharmacy systems.

Audit medication storage areas for proper storage of medications, dating and appropriate medication stock. Fill and distribute routine stock orders for patient care areas.

Complete work activities through effective management of time, tasks and available information.

• Teach and mentor co-workers.
• Answer and appropriately triage incoming phone calls to various areas of the pharmacy department and/or staff.
• Communicate appropriately, using all options available including e-mail.

Demonstrate knowledge of billing and accurately processes charges and credits.

Experience

• Minimum two years pharmacy technician experience with Fairview Pharmacy Services. Successful completion of at least 4 FPS Certified Technician competencies and must maintain Technician Certification (CPhT).

License/Certification/Registration

• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT); FPS Certified Hospital Technician Competencies.

Education

• Graduate of a pharmacy technician program
