This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until 09/02/2021. The initial cut off date for referral of eligible applications will be two (2) weeks from the open date. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as needed basis until positions are filled. The incumbent serves as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of the Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor or designee. The incumbent performs specialized technical duties of a distributive nature in the Inpatient Section of Pharmacy. Major duties include but are not limited to: Fills individual patient medication drawers according to the computer generated pick list. Selects proper medications, counts or measures proper quantities, places drugs in appropriate container(s), affixes labels to drug containers and records required dispensing information on prescription to provide accurate medications for patients. Fills all missing dose requests within one hour of receipt. Assists in filling controlled substances for inpatient areas and clinics in the absence of the controlled substance technician. Inventories and replenishes emergency carts with or without a second review. Reviews medications in the inpatient dispensing area and in patient care areas for outdates and pulls and returns outdated or unusable stock. Receives, fills and delivers ward stock orders (to include large volume IV's) in accordance with the ward stock policy and electronically enters orders to maintain drug accountability. Maintains records required for repackaging/unit dose bar coding to comply with safety and quality assurance mechanisms in pharmacy. Inspects all products for deterioration and proper pharmaceutical characteristics to ensure high quality products, using an extensive knowledge and experience of a large variety of compounded products. Selects proper medication, dose, strength, solution and admixes per established procedures, reconstituting as required to prepare IV medication, using strict aseptic technique, with reference to a pharmacist for final check. Responds to inquiries from professional staff, patients and outside parties to provide general information on drug availability, dosage forms and refers questions regarding therapeutics to the pharmacist. Maintains clean and orderly work areas by keeping stock and equipment in assigned places and all counters free of debris for optimal work environment in accordance with good manufacturing practices. Answers phones and inpatient window in a courteous, tactfully helpful, and understanding manner. Other duties as assigned.
